Mouse CPS Test
Count how many times you can click per second.

Counts pointer presses, so it works with a mouse, a trackpad or a touchscreen. A worn switch that double clicks will inflate this — the double click test is the one that finds that.

How to use the CPS test
Pick a length, then click inside the box to start the timer and keep clicking until it runs out. The first click starts the clock, so there is no countdown to wait through. Your best rate is kept across attempts so you can compare runs.
What the number means
Around 6 to 8 clicks per second is a strong result with ordinary pressing. Higher figures generally come from specific techniques: jitter clicking, which uses arm tension to produce rapid tremor, and butterfly clicking, which alternates two fingers on the same button. Both are hard on your hand and on the switch, and some games ban them.
Short tests measure burst speed and longer ones measure whether you can sustain it, which is usually the more useful number.
If your score looks impossibly high
Suspect the mouse before celebrating. A worn micro switch that bounces will register two clicks for one press, inflating the count and eventually making the mouse unusable for ordinary work. The double click test is built to detect exactly that, and it is worth running if your rate suddenly jumps.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a good clicks per second score?
- Around 6 to 8 clicks per second is a solid normal-clicking result. Much higher figures generally come from techniques such as jitter clicking or butterfly clicking rather than ordinary pressing, and both are hard on your hand and on the switch.
- Can a faulty mouse inflate my score?
- Yes, and it is worth ruling out. A worn switch that registers two clicks per press will show an unusually high number. The double click test is designed to catch exactly that.
- Which test length should I use?
- 5 seconds measures burst speed and is what most scores are quoted at. 10 and 30 seconds show whether you can sustain it, which matters more in games than a short burst.
