How to use the double click test
Click the box with deliberate, single clicks. Any two clicks less than 60 ms apart are flagged as a suspicious double.
What this test checks
Mouse switches wear out and start bouncing, sending two signals for one physical press. This test measures the time between click events so those bounces become visible.
Human clicks are rarely faster than about 80 ms apart, so gaps below 60 ms almost always come from the hardware.
Take at least twenty clicks to get a useful sample.
Common double click problems
Repeated flagged doubles usually mean the left switch needs replacing. Some manufacturers offer a warranty replacement for this exact fault.

- What causes a mouse to double click on its own?
- A worn micro switch. The metal contact inside loses tension over time and bounces as it closes, so one physical press produces two electrical signals. It develops gradually, which is why a mouse that was fine last month can be unusable this month.
- How do I tell a faulty double click from my own fast clicking?
- Click deliberately, with a clear pause between presses, and watch for a second click you did not make. A fault produces extra clicks at random even when you click slowly; if extra clicks only appear when you click fast, the mouse is fine.
- Can a double-clicking mouse be repaired?
- Sometimes. The switch itself can be replaced if you are comfortable soldering, and some switches can be revived by cleaning or bending the contact leaf. Neither is a software fix — adjusting the double-click speed in system settings hides the symptom but does not stop the extra signal.
- Could this be a driver or Windows problem instead?
- It is worth ruling out. Test the same mouse on another computer: if it double clicks there too, the switch is at fault. If it behaves, look at vendor software, macro bindings and the double-click speed setting.
