How to use the mouse test
Click each button inside the mouse area, including the wheel and any side buttons, then scroll up and down. Detected inputs are marked PASS.
What this test checks
The test reads the browser's mouse events and maps each button index to a part of the on-screen mouse. Scroll direction comes from the wheel delta.
Extra buttons only appear if your mouse reports them as standard buttons four and five. Buttons bound to macros in vendor software may not send anything to the browser.
The right-click menu is suppressed inside the test area so right clicks can be measured.
Common mouse problems
A button that never registers usually has a failed micro switch. Scroll input that jumps in the wrong direction can be a dirty or worn encoder.
Frequently asked questions
- My side buttons do not show up. Are they broken?
- Probably not. They only appear if the mouse reports them as standard buttons four and five. If they are bound to macros or key combinations in vendor software, the browser sees a keystroke instead of a button, so nothing registers here.
- Why does right-clicking not open the context menu?
- The menu is deliberately suppressed inside the test area, because otherwise it would cover the results the moment you tested the right button. Right-clicking anywhere outside the test area behaves normally.
- A button never registers. What now?
- That is a failed micro switch in almost every case, and it is a mechanical fault rather than a driver problem. Confirm by testing the mouse on another computer; if it fails there too, the switch needs replacing.
- Does this test my mouse's DPI or sensitivity?
- No. It checks that each button and the wheel are reported at all. Sensitivity is applied by your operating system and vendor software, so it cannot be measured from a web page. The polling rate test does measure how often your mouse reports.
