What this test checks

Xbox controllers use the standard gamepad mapping, so A, B, X, Y, bumpers, triggers, sticks and the D-pad all map cleanly to the buttons shown.

Trigger pull is analog and reports a value from 0 to 1, which is useful for spotting a trigger that no longer reaches full travel.

The Guide button may be captured by the operating system on some setups.

Common xbox controller problems

Bumpers that need a hard press and triggers that stop short are common wear points. Stick drift is best checked with the dedicated drift test.

Which Xbox controllers work?
Xbox One, Series X|S and Elite controllers all work over USB or Bluetooth. Older Xbox 360 pads work too if your system has a driver for them. The Xbox Wireless Adapter is supported as well, since the controller appears as a normal gamepad once connected.
My controller is paired but not detected. What should I check?
Press a button first — the browser will not expose a gamepad until it sends input. If that does not help, confirm the operating system sees it, try a USB cable to rule out Bluetooth, and update the controller firmware using the Xbox Accessories app.
Do the paddles on an Elite controller register?
Only if they are mapped to standard buttons in your controller profile. By default the paddles duplicate face buttons, so pressing one lights up the button it is mapped to rather than appearing separately.
My triggers do not reach full value. Is that a fault?
It can be. Both triggers should move smoothly from zero to their maximum. A trigger that stops short, jumps, or does not return to zero has a worn sensor or something obstructing its travel.
